CHAPTER 1
ESCAPE
“Flood the chamber!”
Water rushed in the small cell. All they could see of the pokemon was a shadowy blur.
“Energize the liquid!”
“Energizing…3…2…1…activate.”
A short spark escaped from the cell when it was suddenly filled with electricity. The water turned yellow, then after a few seconds, the color faded to a complete opaque white. It looked like ice, only not solid.
“Scans show stable chemical balance, ready to insert DNA sample.”
“GOOD…proceed with DNA alteration!”
The first cable was disconnected and a scientist approached the cell with a machine that looked something like a small crane with a needle. He placed the contraption’s needle at about ½ m away from the chamber, and pressed a button. The machine came to life. The needle started spinning furiously while the robotic arm holding it extended. When it reached, a sharp noise filled the room as the needle penetrated the glass container.
“Status?”
“Wall penetration status: 65%. The needle will complete penetration in approximately 30 seconds.”
After 29 seconds the noise ceased, and everybody tensed up as the final step began.
“Is chemical composition stable?”
“Yes, the liquid was not affected by the blast.”
The DNA was released. A low hum could be heard as it rushed up the robotic arm and into the cell through the needle.
“Begin extraction process!”
“Needle extraction begun. NANO robots deployed...The rebuilding of the chamber’s wall started.”
“Will the extraction finish before the wall is complete?”
“Negative, robots are rebuilding in time with the needle’s extraction.”
“Perfect!”
After the machine was removed and the chambers wall was as good as new the last step begun.
“Energize, alter subject molecular composition, and begin atom re-forming!”
The cell was blasted again... at first the liquid showed no sign of change but, in a fraction of a second it solidified and changed color to a brownish red. The shadow inside started to shake...
“Sir, brain activity is increasing, so is hart beat rate. We should abort!”
“NO, not now, when we are so close... keep going!”
“But sir if it wakes up we will lose everything. 2 years of research, tests and experiments will vanish... we can’t afford to lose this pokemon!”
“Are you questioning my authority?! Continue process!”
Everyone watched the small chamber. The shape within it was now moving furiously, and then, it suddenly stopped. The scientist turned towards Giovanni terror-stricken:
“It woke!”
Chapter 1 Part 2
“Damn. Send in the sentinels, don’t let it escape!”
As Giovanni turned to leave the room, the glass of the container started to crack.
The sentinels were a special elite team of Rocket members trained to be the ultimate fighting machine. They were supposed to try capturing the pokemon, but if it escapes, their orders were clear: “Eliminate it.”
By the time the sentinels entered the room the glass had a spider web of cracks on it.
“Stand in position, guns ready.”
They assumed position, ready to fire if something went wrong.
All the scientists and researchers had already left...In the room there was only them and it. Suddenly with a loud crackling noise the cell burst open throwing glass in every direction. Everybody tried to strain their eyes to see within the shower of metal and glass.
After what seemed like an eternity, something moved within the chamber... then, in a furious dash it came in front of them. It leaped towards them with incredible speed and jumped at the first one’s face. He ducked just in time, and the pokemon came crashing down beside him. They saw it clearly now, a small umbreon. It rose slowly, looking at all the guns pointed towards it. The turned towards the guy he just missed. Its eyes started glowing, penetrating thru him.
“Mike, come back”-the commander shouted towards him.
But mike couldn’t move he was frozen in place, with that thing staring at him.
Slowly the umbreon turned back again. This time its fur was raised and his eyes were completely white. A dark aura started forming around it.
“He is trying to escape... Shoot it!”
Meanwhile in a far away room Giovanni was trying to calm down. He remembered how hard it was to find the specific pokemon he needed for his experiments. How after some search he came over this unusually powerful eevee. He then forced it in evolving in an umbreon, and placed it a spherical cell in the middle of a large compound. It had stayed there for a year as his scientists were experimenting on it, trying to find the ultimate formula for creating the most powerful pokemon on Earth. And now when they almost had done it, the pokemon woke. The increased brain activity made the injected DNA dissolve.
“Damn my eagerness!”
The aura covered his body and started glowing. Umbreon was now just a shadow leaping as far away as possible. The bullets went straight thru him. He concentrated his eyes on the window above the door... then shrieked. The glass crumbled to pieces and the umbreon was now free. After escaping out the window, it ran at full speed in the woods.
“Mike... you are the one telling Giovanni about this!”
