"How to Use Raichu (E1)"

Ooooh... pretty artwork... ;)

** 80 HP . This is pretty nice for a Stage 1 Pokemon, such as Raichu. Gold Berry will usually work, and Focus Band will also. Healing Field might also be a good choice if no other Stadiums would help you better.

** Bottom Stats . Just like almost all of the other Lightning cards, Raichu's got Fighting Weakness... >_< Tyrogue will decimate you if you're not careful. Try to not ever have 20 damage on you, otherwise you're at risk for a one-hit KO. (I know it's easier said than done, but it's worth trying.) Raichu has no Resistance, so I don't really have anything to say about it... Finally, Raichu's got a nice, small Retreat Cost of (*). Depending on where in the game you are, you could actually pay this without fear of it coming back to haunt you. There really isn't much point in using a Switch to change when the cost is so low.

** Evolves from Pikachu (Stage 1) . You've got quite a number of choices here... Neo1, Promos 26 and 27, Jungle/LC, or E1. The best bet here is something with 50 HP, which includes Jungle, Neo1, and E1. The Jungle one takes (L)(L) to even attack, so that's out. Either Neo1 or E1 is a good choice. If you think Paralysis is better than dealing 10 or 30 damage, go E1. If the damage looks better, go Neo1. Regardless, Pikachu actually makes a decent showing here.

** (*) Plasma  10 . Haven't we seen an attack like this before? Rocket's Zapdos! But make no mistake, they really watered Raichu's Plasma down... only 10 damage and only on heads does the Energy come back. This definitely doesn't do justice for poor Raichu, as it takes 3 Energy for Shock Bolt. Try not to use this attack too much if you can instead use Shock Bolt... it's really not that good... at all... >_< Now, if there weren't a flip, I wouldn't be complaining...

** (L)(L)(*) Shock Bolt  60 . Now things get interesting. If you can manage, try to keep 1 non-Lightning Energy attached, so you won't have as much to recover. Discarding 2 L for 60 is pretty nice, and you only would have one turn that you have to recover in. Since most Pokemon will have in the range of 80 HP, try to either deal damage with your Pikachu or just use Plasma. You could have some fun with this if you can get it to work quickly...

COMBO CARDS :

~Venusaur (E1). Discard 2 (L) with Shock Bolt. Attach 2 Energy cards to Raichu. Discard 2 with Shock Bolt. Repeat. ;)

RATINGS :
Standard . Ugh... You'd get eaten here. If you really want power, just use Rocket's Zapdos. >_< 5.5 /10.
Modified . I'm sure that given the right situation, Raichu could be a veritable fortress. But, the fact you have to throw away your Energy every Shock Bolt leaves it vulnerable often. Just be careful and think before acting. 7/10.

TRIVIA answer from Seer .
If your deck runs 20 Basic Energy, 1 in 3 cards will be Basic Energy. So no matter what your deck is, you should probably get 1/3rd of those "Seered" cards as Basic Energy! So, probably 2 of the 6 would be Basics.

TRIVIA for Raichu .
Who illustrated this Raichu?

Thanks for reading, and if you would like to see me review a card, email me, and I will write about it!
